It is a pleasure for us to welcome you to the City of Elephant Butte. As you’ve taken the opportunity to take an online look into our remarkable City, we wanted to take a moment to share with you just a few of the things that make us proud to call The City of Elephant Butte home.
The City was incorporated in July 1998 becoming New Mexico’s 101st incorporated community. The Elephant Butte Chamber of Commerce has been fortunate to be a part of a progressive change that has helped set us on course towards a bright and prosperous future. Our location adjacent to the great Elephant Butte Lake State Park has fine established businesses, many here long before incorporation, and we are so happy to welcome new business. Old and new are drawing the attention of residents and visitors alike.
Elephant Butte is home to the City of Elephant Butte Annual two and a half day “Elephant Days” Celebration; Elephant Butte Lake State Park has a myriad of events including the Fireworks Extravaganza put on by The Friends of Elephant Butte Lake State Park, the Chili Cook-off, the legendary Balloon Regatta, sailboat regattas, fishing tournaments, drag boat races and the Chamber’s Luminaria Beachwalk. Our deeply talented community volunteers, along with the Elephant Butte Lake State Park staff have worked tirelessly to make these events and more possible.
Outdoor recreational opportunities provided by Elephant Butte Lake State Park and Sierra County’s millions of unspoiled acres, help accentuate our commitment to maintaining a quality of life that is second to none. Elephant Butte boasts one of the finest locations in the Southwest.
